Sam Kanyenda not bitter
Blue Eagles Sisters Coach, Sam Kanyenda, has played down his exclusion from the Malawi national netball team duties.
“I have been in netball since 1983. One thing I know is that administrators come and go. If the decision was made in the interest of the sport, then I have no qualms. I will still be coaching at my side [Eagles], and when national duties call, I will always be available,”he said.
Kanyenda courted controversy when he openly criticised Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) administration for expelling shooter, Mwawi Kumwenda, from the Queens’ camp without his consent.
Mwawi was axed after she reported late for camp ahead of the disastrous Fast5 Netball World Series tour of Australia.
Kanyenda left the Queens’ camp after Nam had rejected his wish to recall Mwawi.
The Eagles’ mentor is no stranger to controversy as he also refused to deputise Mary Waya in 2014.
Apparently, Nam promoted Waya from assistant Coach to Head Coach with Whyte Mulilima as her deputy.
In a twist of events, Nam has recalled Mwawi to the Queens’ camp ahead of the trip to England.
