Sand Arts Fest shifted to May

Impakt Events, which drives the Sand Music Festival, has shifted the Sand Arts Festival, slated Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi next month, to May.
Impakt Events Director Soldier Lucius Banda confirmed the development Wednesday, saying Sand Arts Festival, which is targeting all artistic disciplines, will be held from May 6 to May 7 2023.
The Sand Arts Festival was scheduled to take place on April 8 and 9 2023.
“We have shifted it for two reasons; firstly, because of Cyclone Freddy. We feel people have not yet fully recovered from it and we still need to give them time and at the same time join the rest in mobilising resources to support the survivors.
“Secondly, our Muslim colleagues are in the period of the holy month of Ramadan and, holding it in Mangochi, we thought of shifting it,” Lucius said.
The legendary musician said they have a whole month for preparations and assured people that they were serious with Sand Arts Festival.
“We are assured of good weather in May and now we are working on rebooking artists,” he said.
During the announcement of Sand Arts Festival dates last month, Lucius and team indicated that this event will not run on a huge budget compared to Sand Music Festival and that its entry package will be lower featuring artistic forms such as poetry, drama, visual arts, comedy and music with a focus on budding artists.
Lucius also said that the festival will be running with a theme and that this year, the theme is ‘Mental Health Matters’.
He said just as they keep on improving with Sand Music Festival which this year will be running for its 13th edition, they will strive to do the best with Sand Arts Festival.
Lucius hailed creatives for joining the rest of the country to mobilise resources to support survivors of Cyclone Freddy.
“As Impakt Events through Sand Music Festival and Sand Arts Festival, we are also involved. We are actually at the moment helping a woman in Mangochi, whose house was washed away. We are fixing her house,” he said.
