LUCIUS—We want to give people a treat

The long awaited three-day Sand Music Festival driven by Impakt Events, which is led by renowned musician Soldier Lucius Banda, starts today to Sunday at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima District.

Now in its eighth edition, the festival could as well have turned a corner.

It is not easy to run a festival during these times of economic hardships but Lucius and team have shown their dedication by keeping the event running.

As has been the case in the past, the festival will have two stages namely Pamchenga, which is the smaller stage, and Booster, the main stage.

Oganisers have partnered Team Entertainers who, as of Wednesday, had mounted the main stage.

“We are done mounting the stage. We are happy to work with Sand Music Festival after a two-year break and we have not compromised on the stage,” Team Entertainers’ Tonderai Banda, said.

One of the international headliners Kenyatta Hill, who is set to perform tomorrow, jetted in the country on Wednesday.

The Jamaican, son to reggae maestro Joseph Hill of Culture, who also performed in the country last year, was welcomed with pomp at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

Lucius said Thursday they are ready for the eighth edition and that the arrival of Kenyatta on Wednesday was a clear indication that all is set.

He, however, said Andrew Tosh, son to another reggae icon Peter Tosh is in bad health.

“Tosh is in bad health; only his cousin Ricardo and manager Oye have arrived. He failed to make it last week when we expected him to make it but it appears his situation is not stable,” Lucius said.

He said Tosh’s cousin and Kenyatta have vowed to stand in his place and offer the best.

“Zimbabwe’s Ammara Brown arrives today (yesterday) from Zambia with a 15-member band. Amayenge from Zambia arrives Saturday (tomorrow) while DJ Stavo arrives today from South Africa,” Lucius said.

Organisers have since released the schedule of performances which indicates that the festival will officially be opened today at the Pamchenga Stage.

Some of the acts performing at Pamchenga Stage on the opening day include Goodwell Thunga, Bianca, Postive Yut and Sulu while on the Pamachenga stage artists on the opening day include Ammara Brown, DJ Stavo, Wendy Harawa, Annemarie Quinn, Code Sangala, Limbani Banda, Nepman, Sam Smack and Atoti Manje.

The Booster Stage will tomorrow feature Amayenge, Lulu, Kenyatta Hill, Patience Namadingo, Chris Aka from Zambia and Black Missionaries among others.

On the last day, the main stage will feature Daughters Band, Miracle Chinga Moffat, Steve Spesho, Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, Marvelous Deeds, Great Angels Choir and Ethel Kamwendo- Banda.

Meanwhile, Lucius has hailed Kwesé, TV for partnering them.

“We are excited to have them as our official partner,” he said.

Kwesé has entered into a sponsorship agreement with the festival organisers making the satellite provider the newest title sponsor, and exclusive international media partner.

Among other things, Kwesé has provided pan-African advertising opportunities for the event.

Speaking on the sponsorship, Country Manager for Kwesé TV Malawi, Wonder Msiska, said, as an African broadcaster with strong investments in general entertainment and sports, they are delighted to provide pan-African exposure for this proudly Malawian event.

“We believe our platforms will significantly intensify advertising and promotion efforts to the rest of Africa, as we will place tactical commercial slots on Kwesé’s entertainment, sports and lifestyle channels available on Free-to-Air and Direct-To- Home satellite TV,” Msiska said.

He said, since its launch last year, Kwesé has provided Malawian audiences with endless hours of well-known and exclusive internationally acclaimed channels and programming encompassing all popular programming genres.

Msiska also said, as Kwesé is celebrating one year of operations in the country, they have reduced the monthly subscription fee from K21,050 to K12,550 to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the premium offering available only on Kwesé TV.
