Saulos Chilima goes to Vatican
Vice President Saulos Chilima Tuesday left for the Vatican in Rome, Italy for a day-long visit.
In a statement issued Tuesday Chilima is scheduled to attend a General Audience at the Vatican where he will make a courtesy call to Pope Francis.
According to the statement, Chilima has also been delegated to invite the head of the Catholic Church to Malawi.
“Dr. Chilima will later the same day meet His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State. During the meeting, Dr. Chilima will extend an invitation from His Excellency, Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of Malawi, for Pope Francis to visit Malawi,” the statement reads.
The only Pope to have visited Malawi was John Paul II who came on May 4 and left on May 6 in 1989.
The statement further discloses that the Vice President will return home Thursday.
