Saulos Chilima hails Scripture Union
Vice-President Saulos Chilima has applauded Scripture Union for the role it is playing in the lives of Malawians.
Chilima said the country’s wish is not only to have a future generation that is educated but also one that is God loving.
“I have been reliably informed that Scripture Union is running over 1,500 Bible Clubs in primary schools across the country as an extracurricular activity. This is very encouraging and it truly shows that, as Scripture Union, you have been rightly doing your part in serving the souls of Malawians while the government looks at the physical needs of the citizens,” Chilima said.
He was speaking in Lilongwe on Saturday during Scripture Union’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
During the ceremony, Chilima appealed to Scripture Union to continue reaching out to as many people as possible with the word of God.
“The emphasis here is that you are messengers of the word of life to children, young people and families. You have been given much and much will be required of you. May your members, therefore, rise to the challenge,” Chilima said.
National Chairperson of Scripture Union Malawi, Roosevelt Gondwe, thanked government and other stakeholders for their support.
“We thank government for allowing us to work in primary schools. We are also grateful to churches in Malawi for accommodating us,” Gondwe said.
He also appealed for support from well-wishers so that they can fulfill their goals.
The Scripture Union was founded by Josiah Spiers in 1867 in London, United Kingdom, targeting children and teenagers. Scripture Union Malawi officially started its operations in 1971.
