“I am very impressed with progress of preparation works. I have seen that works at Kamuzu International airport are almost done; this also applies to the summit venue as well as the Area 18 Interchange,” Chilima said.

He said he expected the preparations to be completed within the next 48 hours as the summit was an opportunity for the country to market itself to the world.

He commended the Malawi Sadc Committee, chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Eisenhower Mkaka, for doing a good job.

Chilima also urged Lilongwe City Council officials to maintain standards they have set beyond the summit.

On Tuesday this week, Chilima met with Ministerial Committee on Sadc members to appreciate the status of Malawi’s preparedness.

“Malawi should regard the hosting of the summit and the assuming of the Sadc chairmanship as a one-time opportunity to show the world what it is capable of doing and showcasing Malawi’s beauty,” Chilima said.
