Vice President, Saulos Chilima, is next month expected to take part in a Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) fundraising tournament for a basketball court construction at Civo in Lilongwe.
The ‘Build a Court at Civo’ tournament is slated for July 15 at Civo.
Cezobal Chairperson, Hellen Chabunya, confirmed that they were targeting K25 million in the project.
The project includes the construction of stands, outdoor court, changing rooms, container renovation and lavatories at the venue.
“The ‘Build a Court at Civo’ tournament is inviting corporate/institutional teams to participate [in the competition] at a fee of K2 million. Teams that have confirmed participation include revived Civo Bucks, which will be captained by Vice President Saulos Chilima, and the Diplomats team. Embassy officials and expatriates have formed a team specifically for this one-day tournament,” Chabunya said in a statement.
The Daily Times was, as we went to press, unable to confirm with Chilima’s office his scheduled involvement in the competition.
The construction has been divided into four phases and is expected to last for 10 months from this month.
Each team is allowed to register 20 players (15 males and five females), a head coach, an assistant coach, team manager and a team doctor.
The self funded Cezobal has come up with innovative ideas of improving basketball in the region.
