Say no to compromise
Most people fail to attain their dreams because they get compromised along the way. That which became a driving force at the very beginning gets lost in the debris of bad advice along the way. The moment one starts compromising on one’s dream, the dream changes; the course of action changes and usually the result changes.
Those that have made it in life have been sticking to their ideals and purpose. They have remained focused no matter how tough, rocky and thorny the journey had been seen to be.
Take for instance what Mahatma Gandhi said: “I am an uncompromising opponent of nonviolent methods even to serve the noblest of causes. There is, therefore, really no meeting ground between the school of violence and myself.”
Legson Kayira never compromised on his dream. He wanted good education and to attain it in America. Not even the distance could put him off. Not even travelling through countries he had little knowledge of could tumble him back. To him, failure was not an option. He soldiered on and on until he made it to his dream land – America.
Come to think of Scader Louis, a courageous young lady who broke her spine on the road as she was in a minibus to school. Wheelchair-bound, she never gave up. She never compromised. Some years later, she proceeded to complete the very same accountancy course that saw her be involved in a road accident. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. It is that simple.
No one else should ever tell you that whatever it is that you want to achieve is impossible. Impossible is the language of those that are not winners. Impossible is the language of those that easily give up.
Upon climbing Mount Everest, one climber said: “It is not the mountain we conquered but ourselves.”
Conquer the fear and remain steadfast. If you keep on listening to people, you will get compromised along the way and that will see you missing the path of your life.
Siphiwe Moyo was right: “If people cannot see you beyond your poverty, shack, cleaning job or level of education, the worst you can do is to assist them. It really cannot help you to be putting yourself down when they already are. You and only you have the power to decide how the story will end.”
As you are determined to never compromise, have this in mind: “You have the pen in your hand, write your ending as you see fit. No limitations, no boundaries and confinements and absolutely no restrictions.”
You should realise that all successful people you admire are just like you. There is no difference between you and them. The truth is that we all come through life the same way – birth – and exit in the same manner – death. We all have 24 hours per day and the freedom of choice to use those 24 hours every day.
Billionaire Bill Gates put it straight: “If you are born poor, it is not your fault but if you die poor, it is.”
This world is awash with stories of people that were born in abject poverty but ended up being the richest; people born out of illiterate parents that ended up being academic professors.
You will agree with this article. It does not take your parents to be chief executive officers for you to become one. Where you were born from matters nothing. It is where you are going that matters most. The common denominator to success remains unchanged – never compromise on your dreams.
