Scallas set to re-open

The management of Blantyre-based entertainment outfit Scallas Café has announced its re-opening on May 21 2020.
Scallas Café management says in a statement that the re-opening will also go together with the re-launch of the venue.
Apart from having a resident band – Mingoli, the venue has hosted several artists among them Sir Paul Banda, Sam Smack, Lulu, Kell Kay, Edgar ndi Davis Band and veteran Giddes Chalamanda.
The management of the venue however, has put up measures in the fight against Covid -19 pandemic.
“Although we are pleased to announce the re-opening, we have to be mindful of the fact that Covid -19 is a reality in Malawi and the rest of the world. So, because of this, we have to take extra precautionary measures to make sure that we enjoy ourselves responsibly,” reads the statement.
Some of the precautionary measures the venue will follow as per the requirements of the Blantyre City Assembly Health Department include checking temperature of all customers entering the venue and disposable plastic tumblers and plates will be used until they get further clearance.
The management of the venue has also indicated that customers will be expected to wash their hands with soap before they enter and that social distancing protocols will be observed.
Scallas Café has also said hand saniters will be provided and that customers are advised to make use of them.
On the entertainment part, Scallas Café has said their schedule remains with Jazz Tuesdays, Thirsty Thursday with Mingoli Band, Friday Nights with DJ love, Saturdays with DJ Myk-C and Sunday Chillaz with live band.
The venue has at times however, proved to be too small for live performances especially featuring top artists.
