Schumacher Kuwali doubtful, Harry Nyirenda fit
Mozambique-based forward, Schumacher Kuwali, is doubtful for Friday’s Group L Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea.
The former Blue Eagles striker is down with flue, Flames coach, Ernest Mtawali, confirmed during a telephone interview from Guinea capital, Conakry, yesterday.
Kuwali was the last player to join the Flames squad in Guinea yesterday morning. He missed a friendly game, which ended 1-1, in Sierra Leone on Tuesday.
Mtawali said he was waiting for a report from team doctor [Enock Mwale] on his availability for the game.
Mtawali said despite the setback, he had studied the way Guinea played during the African Nations Championship (Chan).
He added that South African- based defender, Harry Nyirenda, who picked a knock during a friendly match against Sierra Leone on Tuesday, has been declared fit and he will be ready for selection.
“Actually, the preparations have gone well. I have managed to assess all the players in terms of ball-possession. I am very happy with pitch we are going to use. As we are facing Guinea, I urge all Malawians to rally behind us and put us in their prayers so that we can win this match,” Mtawali said.
The Flames are on position three with one point, while Guinea is on position four with similar points from two games. In the same group, Swaziland take on Zimbabwe also today in Mbabane.
