Scorchers coach fate awaits Fam exco

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is expected to decide on the future of Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili after the expiry of his contract on March 1.
Fazili was appointed Scorchers’ coach after Thom Mkolongo excused himself due to work commitments.
However, reports indicate that Fazili has been offered another one-year contract.
In his brief response, Fam President Walter Nyamilandu said, “This will be discussed soon.”
Fazili took charge of the Scorchers during the 2022 Cosafa Women’s Championship held in South Africa.
Before his appointment as Scorchers coach, Fazili was the assistant to the then-Flames coach Meck Mwase.
Fazili refused to comment on the matter.
During the 2022 edition, the Scorchers started the tournament with a one-all-draw against Botswana before thrashing Comoros Islands 6-0.
Then, they lost 3-1 to Tanzania in the last group stage match.
In a related development, the Malawi Under-20 Girls National Football Team will take part in this year’s Cosafa Girls Championship next month at a date and venue to be announced.
Nyamilandu said the team will feature at this year’s tournament, having failed to take part in previous editions due to lack of resources.
“We have confirmed our participation. We will need to find a way of financing them,” Nyamilandu said.
National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira said it would be a good opportunity for the girls to showcase their talent.
“We want to give the girls exposure,” Ngwira said.
The majority of the Malawi U-17 Girls National Football Team players would be part of the squad.
Rose Kabzere and Faith Chizimu were some of the players who starred at the competition.
FCB Nyasa Bullets Women’s Coach Maggie Chombo is the coach for the U-20 side.
The U-17 won bronze during the Region 5 Youth Games held at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
