Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers will fly out of the country today to take part in Cosafa Cup Championship.
The tournament is slated to run from September 28 to October 9 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Acting Scorchers Coach Andrew Chikhosi has included Zambia-based duo Patricia Nyirenda and Chimwemwe Madise, alongside seasoned campaigners such as vice captain Madyina Ngulube, Ruth Nyirongo, Sabina Thom and Samir Amidu.
Exciting winger Zainab Kapanda and multi-talented striker Asimenye Simwaka have also made it into the final squad.
However, the team will be without Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa (both Wuhan FC) due to club commitments.
National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira said all was set ahead of the trip to South Africa.
“All logistical arrangements have been concluded and the team is ready to go,” she said.
The Scorchers will be hoping to do better this year after exiting the competition in semifinals following a 6- 2 loss to hosts and defending champions South Africa.
Malawi will start the Cosafa Cup Group A campaign against South Africa on September 28 before meeting Mozambique on October 1.
The team’s last group A match will be against Angola on October 4.
Overall group winner in each group will advance to the semifinals of the competition alongside one best runner-up.
