Scorchers starlet impresses Sundowns

Malawi Women’s National Football Team and Ascent Soccer starlet Rose Kabzere has made the grades at South African giants Sundowns Women’s Football Club.
Kabzere spent a week with the reigning African Women’s Champions League champions in South Africa.
Her club Ascent Soccer Academy announced Friday that the youngster impressed with her technical ability and an eye for goal.
Ascent Soccer Operations Director Thom Mkorongo said Sundowns have expressed interest in featuring Kabzere as a guest player in some upcoming friendly, tournaments and future training placements.
“Rose stepped up to the challenge of playing at the pro level in South Africa well. We are pleased with her attitude and discipline whilst with Mamelodi,” Mkolongo said.
The 16-year-old returned home and rejoined her club, Ascent, as they prepare for the upcoming National Championship.
While in South Africa, Kabzere took part in training sessions and matches.
National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) president Suzgo Ngwira hailed Kabzere for living up to her expectations.
“This is good news for Malawi women’s football. We know she is the next big thing in Malawi women’s football,” Ngwira said.
She is considered as one of the brightest talents in women’s football from Malawi having made her debut for senior Scorchers at 15 years.
She also featured and scored for senior Scorchers during the 2022 Cosafa Cup.
Kabzere won the Golden Boot Award with nine goals in four matches during the Region 5 Under-17 Cosafa Girls Championship last year in Lilongwe.
She was named as Player of tournament for Central Region Fam Women’s League when she led Ascent to their maiden title having scored 21 goals.
