Scramble for gate management at Silver Strikers
There was drama at Silver Stadium on Sunday when two outsourcing firms were seen scrambling to manage the gates during Silver Strikers and Mzuni FC match.
Both Silver and Super League of Malawi (Sulom) confirmed the development.
According to Sulom treasurer, Tiya Somba- Banda, the gate management committee in liaison with Silver, agreed to engage Fama to man the gates, but it transpired that an unaccredited firm linked to some Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) officials manned the gates without Sulom’s approval.
“The gate management committee in liaison with Silver (home team) agreed to engage Fama. However, miscommunication at Silver led to their vice treasurer engaging another firm.
“This led to confusion as there were two firms at the Stadium. The matter was discussed and resolved that the other firm should proceed as it had already started earlier on,” said Somba-Banda.
“The gate management committee will meet and discuss with the two firms including Silver to avoid repeat of the same,” he added.
In a separate interview, Silver treasurer Fred Kalonga blamed Sulom on the issue.
“Sulom is to blame because they did not hold a pre-match meeting and all these issues would have been addressed during the meeting. I found Japhet Majekete of Fama at the gate and later the RBM cashiers arrived and started issuing tickets at the gate so we discussed with Fama and the issue was sorted out,” said Kalonga.
Meanwhile a total of K668,590.00 was realised in gate collections during the game.
