Search for Ombudsman starts

Information Minister Gospel Kazako has said the government values the role which the Office of the Ombudsman plays in national development. The sentiments come at a time outgoing Ombudsman Martha Chizuma, who Parliament recently confirmed as Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General, is expected to report for her fresh duties today.

“The process of identifying the next Ombudsman requires tenacity as there is a need to pick an individual who possesses the ideals, values, ethics and approach Malawians are demanding through this government. We will keep the public informed,” Kazako said.
The Constitution of Malawi established the role of the Ombudsman.
“Nomination for appointment of the office of Ombudsman shall be received from the public by way of a public advertisement placed by the Clerk to the National Assembly and the successful candidate shall be appointed by the Public Appointments Committee by the requirements of this section,” the Republican Constitution stipulates.
