Senegal and Egypt are set to wrap up the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations Mozambique 2022 with a showdown in the final this afternoon.
The West Africans made it to the final after edging hosts Mozambique 3-2 in the second semi-final.
Nelson continued his impressive performances for Mozambique with a brace but Souleymane Coly pulled one back for Senegal before Babacar Fall equalised.
Mamadou Sylla scored the winning goal, which put the defending champions on the path to another successful tournament.
Senegal coach Mamadou Diallo said winning against the hosts was not easy.
“It was a very difficult match. I am glad we made it. They wanted to win. I knew it would be very difficult but I prepared my players for it,” Diallo said.
Egypt will be hoping to win their first continental title after qualifying through a narrow 5-4 win over Morocco in the other semi-final.
The Pharaohs coach Moustafa Zeidan Lofty described the result as satisfactory.
“We are happy. We won again; we prepared this long, and we feel satisfied for this result. We know Morocco very well; this gave us a certain advantage, we are happy. Let’s rest and then we’ll think about the final,” Lofty told cafonline.com.
The encounter between Senegal and Egypt will also be a replay of the Cosafa Beach Soccer Cup final, which the former won 5-4.
The two giants met in the regional event as they prepared for the continental showpiece.
Before the final, Morocco and Mozambique will battle for third position.
Uganda finished fifth in the overall standings after beating Malawi 4-1 on Wednesday in a penalty shootout after a 6-6 stalemate in extra time.
The play-off format was introduced to give teams the opportunity to play as many matches as possible.
Confederation of African Football’s website described the match as dramatic and intense from start to finish.
