Sergius advocates better education

SERGIUS—The initiative strives to ensure that
every child in the village has a level playing field

Lilongwe-based rapper Sergius, real name Frazier Yassin, has established what he dubs Learn Easy Campaign which is aimed at reaching out to needy learners in the country.

The rapper recently reached out to needy learners with items for teaching and learning as well as Covid materials at Dziwa School in Balaka.

“The initiative strives to ensure that every child in the village has a level playing field when they begin their primary education,” Sergius said.

Dziwa is an educational initiative that helps prepare young children for success in kindergarten through to primary school.

Catherine Fukulani, a veteran in education, founded Dziwa School in 2010 when she retired to settle in her village.

She established Dziwa after realising that the levels of illiteracy and dropout were high, as the nearest school was over 10km to the village.

“Dziwa was born to help kids from the communities learn to read and write. The school is funded through donations and revenue incomes from individuals,” the founder said.

Sergius’s Learn Easy Campaign, partnered Mot by Annie and fashion brand that helped donate 120 re-usable masks to teachers and some learners as Covid response.

The rapper is using his album titled My Mother’s Child to help fund school rescue initiatives.
