Malawi Women’s National Football Team star striker Tabitha Chawinga has said the Player-of-the-Month award has motivated her to continue performing at the highest level.

Tabitha was named Italian Serie A Women’s Player-of-the-Month for September after her impressive performance for Inter Milan Women.

The former DD Sunshine superstar is enjoying a season of her life, having scored four goals in five matches.

She also provided three assists in five league matches.

Tabitha said her target was to help Inter win trophies.

’’I thank God for making it possible for me. I did not expect this. This is a morale booster for me to continue working hard and achieve more.

’’But I would be happier if Inter win the Serie A Women’s title. At the moment, I am not focusing on personal glory but team achievements,’’ Tabitha, who is on a season-long loan deal from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda, said.

Before moving to Italy, she was the leading goal scorer in the Chinese Women’s Super League with nine goals. She also helped Wuhan win the Chinese Cup.

Her younger sister Temwa, who is still at Wuhan, hailed Tabitha for her exploits in the European country.

’’Tabitha is my role model. I knew she would continue doing well. I can assure you that there is more to come from her,’’ Temwa said.

Tabitha is third on the scorers’ chart with four goals, just one behind joint leaders Cristiana Girelli and Elisa Polli.

While in China, she won the golden boot award three times in five years.

Tabitha also won the award twice in Sweden including in her debut season when she scored 38 goals despite joining while the league was in progress.

She also won two Player-of-the-Year awards in China.
