Sex workers to protest Covid restrictions
Female Sex Workers Association (FSWA) plans to hold demonstrations on Thursday to voice out concerns over Covid-induced restrictions on beer-drinking joints’ operating hours.
In a notice sent to Lilongwe District Council on Monday, FSWA Executive Director Zinenani Majawa says they were not happy with the requirement that bars should operating from 2pm to 8pm.
“The demonstration will start from Lilongwe Community Centre ground to district council offices,” the notice reads.
However, Lilongwe District Commissioner Lawford Palani has advised the group to present the request to Lilongwe City Council officials as the route falls under the city council’s jurisdiction.
In view of escalating cases of Covid, President Lazarus Chakwera announced a new set of restrictions when he declared a State of National Disaster two Sundays ago.
