Shepherd Tembo emerged the champion of The Shankers golf tournament held at Lilongwe Golf Club on Sunday.
Tembo, who also clinched the longest drive, posted a net score of 73 followed by Christopher Mpanga and Mike Kalulu on 82 and 84 respectively. Kalulu also claimed the nearest-to-the-pin.
“I enjoyed playing golf and I deserved the victory,” Tembo said in his victory speech In the ladies category, Sandra Komakechi underlined her class when she emerged the champion. Jochebed Mpanga came second, whereas Juliet Masonjo finished on position three.
The Shankers — a grouping of Lilongwe-based golfers, organized the golf in line with the group’s objectives of contributing towards social and economic development of Malawi.
Speaking during the prize presentation, The Shankers, spokesperson, Christopher Mpanga, said the group will embark on charity work and sponsor a promising youthful golfer with the aim of developing the sport.
