American Christian rapper Sho Baraka, real name Amisho Baraka Lewis, on Saturday finally performed at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe, where he attracted a good audience.
However, rains fell soon after the rapper finished his performance and some people got soaked on their way home.
This was a free show and had, on the menu, performances from local acts such as Faith Mussa.
The American rapper said he was excited to perform in the country for the first time.
“This is my first time to perform in Malawi but the support I got is massive,” he said.
Sho Baraka said he has been to Zambia twice but the support he got in the country was exceptional.
Through his songs, he ministered the word of God.
The show was dominated by the youth.
The American rapper yesterday performed at the Blantyre Cultural Centre.
The two concerts were organised by Flood Church.
Flood Church pastor, Yamikani Kalizang’oma, said the two gospel shows were organised because the church believes in creating authentic environments where young people can engage in conversations of faith and hope.
“And, this being December, it was a brilliant way to celebrate with friends and family while enjoying beautiful music from all over the world and that’s USA, Zambia and Malawi,” Kalizang’oma said.
It is not the first time for Flood Church to organise a show as, in May this year, they invited US Christian rapper Da Truth alongside South Africa’s Lilly Million.
This time around, Sho Baraka came alongside Zambia’s hip hop artist Mag44.
Kalizang’oma said both artists are passionate about fighting injustices and encouraging others to use their gifts.
Born on January 10 1979, Sho Baraka, who is also a writer, has recorded both independently and as a founding member of the 116 Clique.
His debut album Turn My Life Up was released in November 2007 while his second, Lions and Liars, was released in March 2010.
His third album, Talented Xth, was released in January 2013 with his fourth album, The Narrative, being released in October 2016.
