Malawi Congress Party (MCP) vice president, Sidik Mia, has said he will contest for a parliamentary seat in Chikwawa Nkombezi Constituency in the next year’s Tripartite Elections.
Mia made the announcement yesterday during a political meeting with constituency leaders at Ngabu in Chikwawa District.
He said the incumbent legislator, Loyd Malola of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has failed to develop the constituency.
“I left the constituency hoping that the person who would come would do half of the things I would have done but he [Malola] has not performed,” Mia said.
Mia said during the time he was Cabinet minister and legislator, he achieved a lot.
“Even the Vice-President of this country [Saulosi Chilima] has admitted that this country and the DPP government in particular is abusing taxpayers’ money. We can achieve a lot with our own resources and money,” Mia said.
When contacted for his response, Malola said: “Well, that is his democratic right as a Malawian citizen. I cannot comment further than that. [Let me just] say I welcome him and I will embrace the challenge to compete with him,”Malola said.
