Silence on Dalitso Sailesi
ZAMBIAN football power house, Power Dynamos, have shifted goal posts on the prospect of signing outright Nyasa Big Bullets’ livewire attacking midfielder Dalitso Sailesi.
Dynamos Chief Executive Officer, Ricky Mamfunda, yesterday insisted that it was only their Coach Dan Kabwe, who spoke highly of the Malawi national football team attacker following his exploits at the 2017 Cosafa Castle Cup in South Africa.
“We have not shown interest in the player officially. Nonetheless, we would be interested in exploring that market [Malawi], but we do not have more details,” Mamfunda said in a telephone interview from Lusaka.
“The coach has made the proposal [for Sailesi] but, as management, we are looking at strengthening the team from the striking force to the defence. We are looking for a natural striker and a central defender.”
Zambian sports journalist Mutheliso Phiri yesterday also said he had spoken to Dynamos Team Manager [Fewdays Musonda], who was in the dark about the interest in Sailesi.
“Power Dynamos are one of Zambia’s biggest clubs, the only one to have won a continental title. They have one foreigner on their books [Ivorian Ferdinand Kam].
Power Dynamos are not aware of the interest in Dalitso Sailesi,” Phiri said. Bullets General Secretary, Albert Chigoga, yesterday also admitted that Dynamos had not officialised their interest in Sailesi, who picked a man of the match award in a 0-0 draw against Mauritius at the Cosafa Castle Cup.
“Up to now there is nothing in writing, but there is strong interest in the player from Dynamos,” Chigoga said.
The former Blantyre United winger was, alongside midfielders Chikoti Chirwa, Yamikani Chester and right back Stanley Sanudi, among the few bright lights in an otherwise doomed showing for the Flames at the Cosafa cup.
The former under-20 player Sailesi is in his mid-20s and is capped less than 10 times. Other reports suggested that South Africa’s SuperSport United had cast their eyes on Sanudi and Chester, but their club Be Forward Wanderers have not received any official inquiry.
The only Zambian club to have won the Confederations Cup in 1990, Dynamos are, alongside Mufulirwa Wanderers and Nkana Rangers, Zambia’s giant clubs.
