Capital City giants Silver Strikers will renew their rivalry with Nyasa Big Bullets in FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal following a draw held Friday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.
The two teams will meet three times this season, having met twice in the TNM Super League. Silver won the first-round game before the Peoples Team came from behind to revenge 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium Friday.
Interestingly, Mighty Wanderers, who are expected to face Mafco FC today in a TNM Super League, were also drawn against the Salima based soldiers.
The FDH Bank Cup quarterfinals draw also saw Ekwendeni Hammers being drawn against Ntopwa FC.
It is confirmed that one Premier Division side will cruise to the semifinals after Northern Region Premier League side Rumphi United were drawn against Central Region Premier League side Dedza Young Soccer.
Speaking after the draw, Silver Strikers Communication Manager, David Dauda, expressed satisfaction with the draw, saying they were ready to challenge Bullets for both Cup and league title.
“This is a crucial fixture in the cup to us but if we want to prove that we are good then we need to beat Bullets. We are ready for the battle and I know it won’t be an easy ride,” Dauda said.
Fam Commercial Director, Limbani Matola, said the FDH Bank Cup has now reached a climax stage.
“We are delighted with the draw and as Fam, we will ensure that all the matches at this stage should be exciting. We would like to thank the teams for their behaviour since the competition started,” Matola said.
There was more good news from the sponsor, through FDH Bank Marketing Manager, Ronald Chimchere announced that quarterfinalists will receive K1 million as a bonus, with K2 million to those teams reaching the semifinals.
“We will start giving man of the match accolades at this stage. We are glad that one regional team will reach the semifinal slot, following the meeting of Rumphi United and Dedza Young Soccer,” he said.
After the quarterfinals draw Fam proceeded by conducting the FDH Bank semifinals draw that saw the winner between Silver and Bullets play winner between Wanderers and Mafco.
Winner between Ekwendeni and Ntopwa will play the winner between Dedza and Rumphi United.
