Silver Strikers, Blue Eagles in battle of wounded buffaloes

Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles will be seeking a return to winning ways when they face-off Saturday in a TNM Super League match at Silver Stadium.

The two teams lost their previous league matches last week. Silver lost 0-2 to rivals Civo while Eagles saw their unbeaten run thwarted by Airborne Rangers with the same score.

Both sides are confident ahead of the showdown.

A loss for either side would mean a second consecutive defeat within a space of seven days.

On the part of Silver, a loss would be a bitter pill to swallow for the hard-to-be-pleased fans as they have already lost five games after playing 12 games in the league while Eagles have only lost once this season.

Speaking after Wednesday training session, Silver coach Stain Chirwa said they had intensified their preparations ahead of the big match.

“We are taking the game seriously after poor performance against Civo. We anticipate a tough match against Eagles but we are determined to win the game,” said Chirwa.

Beating Eagles won’t be an easy task for Silver even if Green Harawa, Tizgobere Kumwenda, Mike Robert and Ndaziona Chatsalira are back from injuries and suspensions.

The Area 30-based side buoyed by the return of midfielder Micium Mhone, are also hoping to bounce back to winning ways after their first defeat of the season.

Eagles’ team manager, Gabriel Chirwa, said his charges would not afford any slip-up at this stage.

“The match against Silver is always difficult, but a win will be important for us. We are busy doing our home work after losing to Airborne and the players are in good mood,” he said.

Eagles are third on the log table with 20 points from 11 games while Silver are fourth on points after playing 12 games.

Last season, Silver defeated Eagles 1-0 at Nankhaka Stadium before they were held to a goal-less draw at Silver Stadium.

In other matches to be played today, Civo host Dedza Young Soccer at Civo Stadium, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers play Airborne Rangers at Kalulu while Moyale and Azam Tigers will be in action at Mzuzu Stadium.
