Silver Strikers, Blue Eagles share spoils
Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles Wednesday played out to a 1-1 draw in a TNM Super League first round match at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Silver remain on position 10 with 10 points from six games whereas Eagles have moved up to sixth place with 13 points from nine games.
Silver dominated the first half whereas Eagles had a lion’s share of possession in the second half.
Striker Green Harawa opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Eagles goalkeeper John Soko had fumbled Harawa’s header for the pint-sized forward to tap in from close range.
The two teams went to recess with Silver leading 1-0.
But Eagles were a changed side in the second with good displays led by Captain Micium Mhone and winger Gilbert Chirwa.
No wonder, Eagles levelled the score through Vitumbiko Kumwenda in the 76th minute.
It was a classic goal that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. With the goal at his back, Kumwenda flicked the ball into the net, beating Silver goalkeeper Blessings Kameza.
Both teams fought for a winner but it was not to be.
In a post-match reaction, Silver Head Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said his side failed to bury the game in the first half.
“We had some good chances but we were too casual. We played better in the first half but struggled in the second half,” Fazili said.
Eagles Head Coach, Audloy Makonyola, praised his charges for a good performance.
