Silver Strikers board rebukes fans

DEADLOCK—Fans close the office

Dust is refusing to settle in Silver Strikers camp as directors have backed under-fire Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thokozani Chimbali and Fan Engagement Officer David Dauda.

This comes just a day after Silver supporters sealed the club’s offices demanding the firing of the two officers.

However, sponsors Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), led by governor Wilson Banda, summoned the directors, secretariat and supporters to an emergency meeting at the Club House in Lilongwe Sunday.

A well-placed source confided in Times Sport that the supporters were told that they were overstepping their mandate.

“The supporters were told that they do not have the mandate to fire the two officers because Silver is a limited company. In fact, the governor was not happy with the conduct of the supporters,’’ said the source.

According to the source, the sponsors asked all the stakeholders to have a meeting to resolve the differences.

However, Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye was not readily available for his comment.

RBM spokesperson Ralph Tseka confirmed that the meeting took place but said it was an internal matter.

“What we discussed is not for public consumption,’’ Tseka said.

After closing the offices on Saturday, the supporters claimed that Chimbali was making key decisions without consultations. Among other things, the supporters are claiming that the CEO offloaded some of the players without the blessings of the technical panel.

The club has offloaded five players namely Frank Banda, Blessings Tembo, Prince Phiri, Mike Robert and Taonga Chimodzi.

In an interview, Silver Supporters’ Coordinator Brandson Levison, who attended the meeting, said the matter was not yet over.

“We, as supporters, will meet to discuss the way forward,’’ Levison said.

However, both Chimbali and Dauda refused to comment on the matter Sunday.
