Silver Strikers board suspends supporters committee

Silver Strikers Board of Directors has suspended the club’s newly appointed National Supporters Committee, which was being led by Chisomo Mwamadi.

Silver Board of Directors met on Saturday at the team’s Club House in Area 47, Lilongwe, following concerns from a section of the team’s fans who were not pleased with the criterion which was used for composing committee.

Silver released a press statement Wednesday announcing the suspension of the committee pending review.

“Silver Strikers Football Club, through the board resolution, is informing all supporters, football stakeholders and the general public that the club has suspended the reconstitution of the National Supporters Committee and all operations of the committee pending review of the internal processes,” reads the statement which the club’s communication and fan engagement officer Daniel David Dauda has signed.

“The club is encouraging supporters to continue their activities in supporting the team through their established zone committees. Supporters should also continue the registration formalities, which already started.”

The statement states that the club has commenced the review process which will include consultations with supporters and stakeholders across the country with an aim of developing a modern supporters policy.

In an interview, Dauda said the new procedure would allow all supporters to make their input.

“It is true that the supporters committee has been suspended by the board. We have given all Silver fans a chance to give us their input on the supporters committee until 25th March. Then, we will come up with the setup of our supporters committee,” he said.

Silver supporter Noel Nthala, popularly known as ‘Ayesu’, confirmed penning the board of directors because they were not happy with the procedure which was used to come up with the suspended committee.

“We did not recognise them as our leaders,” he said.

The Bankers appointed a new supporters committee headed by former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Sports Presenter Mwamadi, who replaced Kingsley Malaya on February 14.

Other members in the suspended committee were general secretary Kumbukani Kalomba, treasurer Gersom S. Banda, members Sphiwe Banda, Tia-Maria Katemba, Jossam Betifala, Jafali Chikwakwa, Noah Gilbert and Fakame Chiyamwaka.
