Silver Strikers cast net wider on coach

Silver Strikers have cast the net wider in their drive to recruit a coach with a good track record.
It has been a week since Silver short-listed 11 foreign coaches and one local to attend interviews for the top job.
The club’s company secretary Peter Masiye said the technical committee is expected to finalise the process this week.
’’With due respect, after analysing the coaches we had interviewed, we also saw the need to approach some of the coaches with a good track record. By the end of this week, we will finalise everything,’’ Masiye said.
According to Masiye, some of the high-profile names that have been mentioned include former Malawi National Football Team coach Meck Mwase, ex-Mighty Mukuru Wanderers mentor Rahman Gumbo, former Nyasa Big Bullets coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan and Flames legend John Maduka.
“All the four coaches have good track records and we believe they can bring in something new,’’ he said.
Mwase has a running contract with the Malawi Government as Flames coach, with his contract set to expire soon.
Gumbo guided Wanderers to the TNM Super League title in 2005 and is currently in Botswana at Morupule Wanderers.
Maduka is a former Silver strikers player and has been linked with a return to Royal AM after getting sacked at Maritzburg United.
The 11 coaches that attended the interview were from South Africa, England, Zimbabwe and Zambia with Patricio Kulemeka being the only Malawian on the short-list.
The new coach will replace Zambian Daniel Kabwe, who was fired 11 games into his second season.
The Central Bankers finished the 2022 season with Leo Mpulula as caretaker coach, with Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa as his assistant.
Silver endured a difficult campaign last season after finishing empty-handed and on position five in the TNM Super League.
