Silver Strikers have entered the race to sign unsettled Polokwane City forward Essau Kanyenda as they look to bolster their attack ahead of next season.
Kanyenda’s contract with City expires in June this year and has also been linked with a move to TNM Super League champions, Nyasa Big Bullets.
In an interview yesterday, Silver treasurer, Fred Kalonga, confirmed that the bankers are interested in signing the former Jomo Cosmos forward.
“We are discussing with him. Essau has played at top level and we believe he still has a lot to offer to the team as well as to the younger players,” Kalonga said.
It now appears that Silver want to hijack his proposed move to Bullets. Kanyenda yesterday was not available for comment.
The City striker recently revealed that he would love to end his career at the People’s Team. Bullets have already confirmed their admiration for the experienced attacker.
Kanyenda has six months remaining on his contract and he is allowed to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice, according to Fifa transfer rules and regulations.
At the peak of his career, Kanyenda had stints with Russian sides, Rostov FC, Kamaz FC and Locomotive Moscow.
However, Kanyenda has struggled for game time in South Africa this season.
The Central Bankers are on a rebuilding exercise after a dismal campaign in the just-ended season when they finished on position five in the TNM Super League.
