Silver Strikers have made a sensational claim that they failed to extend striker Maxwell Gasten Phodo’s contract due to unrealistic demands.
The club Monday announced that it has parted ways with the striker, whose contract expired on October 2 2022, with immediate effect.
“The club did everything possible to extend the player’s contract but his demands were beyond what the club can manage, hence the deadlock,”’ said the club in a statement Monday.
Phodo made headlines for good reasons during the first round of the 2021 TNM Super League when he scored eight goals in 10 matches.
He was included in the Flames squad at the Cosafa Cup in South Africa but failed to live up to expectations.
Again, Phodo struggled to replicate his first-round form in the second round.
When contacted Monday, Phodo said he was waiting for official communication from Silver.
“I will not say anything at the moment,” he said.
However, his manager, Felix Joseph Kholowa, confirmed that discussions with Silver failed.
“We had another meeting last Friday but failed to agree. The door is still open for Silver,” Kholowa said.
The former Mzuni FC and Dedza Dynamos striker has on several occasions been linked with Blantyre giants Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
However, both Bullets and Wanderers were not readily available for their comments.
