Silver Strikers coach not done

NEW SIGNINGS—The players after unveiling

Silver Strikers Coach Daniel Kabwe says the club needs at least a defender to complete their spending in the ongoing transfer window.

Kabwe said this when unveiling three new signings namely goalkeeper Antony Singini from Karonga United, striker Stain Davie from TN Stars and midfielder Chikondi Kamanga a free agent.

“We are working on a frame of the team from goalkeeping, defence, midfield and striking force but we have remained with defence to fill. In midfield we have players, we just need to improve them,” Kabwe said.

The unveiling of the three players means Silver have signed four players ahead of the season after capturing striker Foster Biton from Blue Eagles.

Apart from signing four players from other teams, Kabwe has also promoted seven players from the reserve side.

Silver have already shown interest to sign defender Nickson Mwase from rivals Civil Sporting Club but the two clubs are yet to agree on the transfer fee.

In defence, Silver have Chisomo Mpachika, Mike Robert, Herbert Wayenkha, Hadji Wali, Mark Fodya and Yinusa Sherrif.

But Sherrif is yet to report for training as he is still in Nigeria for holiday.

After his unveiling on Monday, Kamanga said it was a dream come true.

“It was my dream to play for a big club like Silver so I am happy to join them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Silver have released four more players barely a day after unveiling the three signings.

The released players include former Nyasa Big Bullets and Blantyre United midfielder Victor Limbani, Hygeine Mwandepeka and Mike Robert plus one player who was promoted from the reserve side.

Limbani, who is one of the highly rated midfielder, confirmed his sacking yesterday.

“I was told before training that I have been released from the team. I am not bitter and I respect the coaches decision. I hope another door will open for me,” Limbani said.

Before appointing Kabwe, Silver released 17 players including Lazarus Nyemera, Mphatso Philimon, Green Harawa, Mike Mtonyo and Ernest Tambe.

Kabwe, who is a former Zambia national football team technical director, was given a daunting task of winning all trophies in the country.

Silver have gone more than five years without winning the TNM Super League. But they have won the Airtel Top 8 Cup twice in three years.
