Silver Strikers defender Nigeria-bound
Silver Strikers defender Lameck Kachimanga could be the first Malawian footballer to play in Nigerian top-flight league as he is set to join Dolphins FC, The Daily Times has learnt.
In an interview on Wednesday, Silver general secretary, Fred Kalonga, confirmed that the Nigerian club had made contact with the player expressing interest to sign him.
“Yes, I can confirm that the player will be going to Nigeria to play for Dolphin FC. Actually, the player approached me and asked if we could allow him to travel to Nigeria, the club accepted and he is waiting for Visa,” said Kalonga.
Kalonga said the deal is believed to have been brokered by unnamed agent, who is also facilitating Young Chimodzi Junior’s deal to Kenkre FC of India.
Chimodzi has already been cleared by Football Association of Malawi (Fam) but has been held up by visa hitches.
In a separate interview, Kachimanga refused to disclose more information on the matter.
“At the moment I am still as Silver player and I will not comment on the matter because I don’t know anything” said Kachimanga.
Early this year, Kachimanga was on the verge of joining Mozambican club ENH FC but the deal did not go through due to contractual disagreements.
The former Escom United (now Kabula) and Civo United defender also had stint with HCB de Songo of Mozambique between 2009 -2010.
Dolphins are a Nigerian team based in Port Harcourt.
