Silver Strikers eye six points

By Williams Gondwa:

Capital City giants Silver Strikers left for Karonga in the early hours of Thursday in a bid to start their 2019 TNM Super League campaign on a high.

The Central Bankers will play two matches in Karonga, starting with Karonga United Saturday before facing returnees Chitipa United on Sunday.

However, Silver Strikers Team Manager Hellings Mwakasungula has described both matches as tricky.

Mwakusungula said much as beating the two sides at their own backyard would not be easy, grabbing six points is a must for his side.

“I would not say we are 100 percent ready but as a team, we need to be ready to win the title. It is always important to start the marathon on a high. We are encouraging our players to work hard so that we win all the matches,” Mwakasungula said.

Silver did not win any silverware in the 2018 season and will be itching for a better season.

Meanwhile, Chitipa Team Manager Mwaiseni Chinama said facing Silver would give them a chance to assess their players’ ability to win trophies in the 2019 season.

Chinama said Chitipa have assembled a squad capable of withstanding the heat against the giants and remain in the elite league.

“We have registered capable players and we have confidence in them. We are ready to face Silver. This will be a good game to us as we start the season against one of the big teams in the league,” he said.

Other teams that start the campaign with away matches are the champions Nyasa Big Bullets, Moyale, Mzuni, Mighty Tigers and Civil Sporting Club.

Bullets are away in Kasungu against TN Stars Saturday while Moyale travel to Lilongwe to face Masters and Blue Eagles.

Mzuni travel to Blantyre to play against Be Forward Wanderers and rookies Ntopwa FC whereas Tigers are in the Central Region to face Kamuzu Barracks and Dwangwa United.

Civil will be in Kasungu on Sunday against Mlatho Mponela.
