Silver Strikers face Kenyan club in friendly
By Mabvuto Kambuwe:
TNM Super League giants Silver Strikers have secured a friendly against Kenyan side Tusker FC to prepare for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Cup preliminary round first leg away match against Gabon’s AO CMS on November 27.
Silver Chairperson, Ralph Tseka, on Monday confirmed the development.
Silver will fly out to Kenya Wednesday for the match which is scheduled for Thursday at Ruaraka Grounds. Silver will proceed to Gabon after the friendly.
The Bankers had earlier told the press they would play against Ethiopian giants Saint George but the game did not take place due to some challenges.
Meanwhile, Tusker have, on their website, confirmed that they will host Silver.
“After a series of trial and practice matches, this would be the first real test for Tusker
FC ahead of the 2018/19 season. Tusker Coach Robert Matano will be checking out on new [sic] players he has recruited in his squad going into the next season which is two weeks away,’’ Tusker’s website reports.
Silver lost 2-0 to Super League champions Be Forward Wanderers in a friendly played at Kamuzu Stadium over the weekend, but the Bankers defeated Mafco 2-1 in another match in Salima District.
Silver are returning to continental football after 25 years whereas Nyasa Big Bullets, who will represent Malawi in the Caf Champions League, last played in Africa in 2015.
Bullets face Gor Mahia of Kenya on November 27 in the first-leg.
Bullets played two goal-less draws against JKU and Simba FC in Zanzibar and Tanzania, respectively.
The winner between Silver and CMS face either Raja Casablanca (Morocco) or RD from the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round whereas Bullets meet Lobi Stars of Nigeria or US Louam of Cameroon should they beat Mahia.
