Silver Strikers have roped in former Masters Security mentor Abasi Makawa as an assistant coach, replacing Peter Mgangira who has been fired.
Makawa, who resigned from Masters last week, was unveiled at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe during the team’s training on Tuesday.
Silver Chairperson, Peter Chando, said they have taken Makawa on board in the Young Chimodzi-led coaching panel, as they aim to challenge for the TNM Super League title.
“We introduced him to the players and our agreement is for the rest of the season. After the season, we will evaluate his performance and see the way forward,” Chando said.
“We are not yet done with the technical panel. There might be changes and we might offload some of the players but we will wait for the technical panel’s report.”
Makawa has replaced Lovemore Fazili, who signed a one-year contract with Football Association of Malawi as Flames coach Meck Mwase’s deputy.
Silver General Secretary, Lawrence Yobe, has confirmed the dismissal of Mgangira describing it as “part of our restructuring process”.
Mgangira, who drilled the team in the morning but was told not to report for duties in the afternoon, confirmed about his dismissal.
The Central Bankers are on fourth position on the log table with 28 points from 15 games. They begin the second round with a tricky home fixture against Blue Eagles on Sunday.
Silver have gone over five years without winning the Super League title but have the seized the Airtel Top 8 twice in three years since it was introduced.
