Silver Strikers General Secretary quits

By Mabvuto Kambuwe:
Trouble is brewing at Silver Strikers as the club’s general secretary, Lawrence Yobe, resigned on Tuesday, the same day that players shunned training over unpaid salaries for August, three-game bonuses and training allowances for a month.
Yobe stepped in for Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, who is in the United Kingdom for studies.
“I have authenticated the intentions of the board to replace [sic] the position of GS. I am glad to tender my resignation with immediate effect for the betterment of the team. Wishing you and the entire Silver family all the best,” Yobe posted on Silver Facebook page.
Silver Chairperson, Peter Chando, on Tuesday downplayed the issue and promised to pay the players by yesterday.
One of the senior players for Silver said they did not train as the club owes them salaries and allowances.
Silver, who won the Airtel Top 8 trophy recently, started the Super League second round with al1-1 draw with Blue Eagles at Silver Stadium on Sunday.
