Rejuvenated Silver Strikers are aiming for the top slot as they take on Blue Eagles in a TNM Super League match at Nankhaka Stadium this afternoon, John Chilembwe Day.
If Silver win the match, they would displace leaders Red Lions, who top the log table with 17 points one ahead of Silver.
The Bankers assistant coach MacDonald Mtetemela said, having defeated Moyale 5-1 last weekend, their trip to Area 30 in Lilongwe would help them gauge their chances of winning the title this season.
“We know how difficult Eagles are at home. All we want is to win the match and be on top of the log table. The boys are geared to display good football and, at the end of the day, win the match,” he said.
Mtetemela confessed it would be a tough encounter as Eagles thrashed struggling Chitipa United 4-0.
Eagles new coach Gerald Phiri Snr, who was Mtetemela’s teammate during their playing career, said he did not want to drop points at home.
“The players are in good shape. What is needed is to encourage them. We are facing a good side which is winning matches but this could be our turning point if we are to edge closer to the leading teams,” said the former Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Mighty Tigers mentor.
Meanwhile, Mafco will date TN Stars at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe in another game slated for John Chilembwe Day.
In another match, Chitipa will be searching for their first victory of the season when hosting debutants Ekwendeni Hammers.
