Silver Strikers hike players’ perks, vie for Caf League
Management of TNM Super League giants, Silver Strikers, has disclosed that it is reviewing perks for players and coaching panel to motivate them ahead of the new season.
This was disclosed during a workshop for the players at the Club House in Lilongwe yesterday.
Silver have developed a five-year strategic plan, which among other things, will see the club undergoing reforms as part of a commercialisation drive.
The club will, before next season, also increase monthly upkeeps, game bonuses and training allowances for players, Chairperson, Ralph Tseka, confirmed.
“In our strategic plan, we have set targets as we want to be more visible and also form a formidable side capable of winning all cups in Malawi. We want to win more cups this season and the TNM Super League so that we should participate in the Caf Champions League,” Tseka said.
For a win, Silver players get K30,000 and half the amount for a draw but nothing for a loss.
Tseka suggested that game bonus might be raised to K100,000 for a win but nothing for a draw and a loss to motivate the players.
He also said the club has set aside funds for the team’s participation in 2019 Caf Champions League.
Tseka said the team would also camp outside the country and play four strength-testing matches against top teams such as Kaizer Chief and Orlando Pirates in South Africa.
Silver Team Manager, Francis Songo, said the incentives would motivate the players ahead of next season.
“It is a lucrative offer from management and this would help the players to work extra harder. But for us to be successful, the players need to show commitment,” Songo said.
Silver will also buy a Toyota Prado for the technical panel to be used during the games. During the workshop, facilitators drilled the players on how to manage their resources.
Former Flames and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Chancy Gondwe, advised the players on how to make good decisions before signing contracts.
Last season, Silver won the inaugural Airtel Top 8 Cup after beating
Be Forward Wanderers 10-9 on post-match penalties.
Silver have gone four consecutive seasons without winning the TNM Super League title.
