COULD LEAD SILVER—Mpulula

Silver Strikers could be forced to demote interim coach Macdonald Yobe following Football Association of Malawi (Fam)’s directive that unqualified coaches will not be allowed to lead teams in the top flight league effective this weekend.

The directive comes as Silver are expected to face Dedza Dynamos FC in the round of 32 of the FDH Bank Cup at Dedza Stadium on Saturday.

Yobe, who has Fam C-coaching course, was named Silver interim coach after the club suspended coach Daniel Kabwe, paving the way for investigation.

However, Silver are yet to make a decision on Kabwe and the entire backroom staff.

Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali the club was not panicking.

“Our head coach is still with us and on mere suspension. Nevertheless, we have a qualified coach in our technical setup. So, we are not panicking,’’ Chimbali said.

Following Fam’s directive, Silver are considering promoting Reserve side coach Leo Mpulula to be in-charge of the team ahead of the weekend game.

Mpulula has Caf A coaching licence.

However, both Mpulula and Yobe were not readily available for comments yesterday.

In the absence of Kabwe, who is currently in Tanzania for Caf A coaching course, Yobe led Silver to two victories over Mighty Tigers (1-0) and TN Stars (4-1) and a draw against Moyale Barracks in the TNM Super League.

Coaches require a minimum of Caf B licence to coach in the TNM Super League.

Fam Licencing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale confirmed that the association has written Silver on the matter.

“Actually, it is not only Silver; we have also written TN Stars to provide us with details of their coaches. We will not allow any one without Caf B licence to lead teams,” Jangale said.

However, Stars have Kondwani Mwalweni, who has Caf A Coaching licence.

Thirty coaches are currently attending a Caf B coaching course at Mpira Village in Blantyre to upgrade their qualifications.

The coaches are undergoing both theory and practical lessons.

Some of the coaches taking part in the course are Eliya Kananji, Peter Mponda, Albert Mpinganjira, Clement Kafwafwa and Oscar Kaunda.
