TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers FC are hoping to progress to the quarterfinals of the FDH Bank Cup matches as they date unpredictable Moyale Barracks today at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has lined up three FDH Bank Cup today that will also see Mafco welcoming fellow soldiers Mafco FC at Civo Stadium, Mighty Wanderers hosting Chitipa United at Kamuzu Stadium and Wanderers Reserve playing away to Ekwendeni Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium.

Speaking ahead of today’s match, Silver Assistant Coach Macdonald Mtetemera said they would treat the match as a cup final but acknowledged that it would not be an easy task.

“We need to score quick goals so that we are settled. We are playing against the soldiers and we know it will be a physical game. Winning this match will mean a lot to us as it will be a litmus test as we prepare for Caf assignments ahead of us,” Mtetemera said.

However, Moyale Assistant Coach Prichard Mwansa said they were leaving no stone unturned to win the match.

Mwansa said the soldiers were banking on winning the FDH Bank Cup this season as they were not doing well in the league.

“It’s a must-win game for us. We haven’t done enough in Cup matches in recent years. Moyale used to be the cup specialists and we want to revive that by progressing to the quarter finals.

Meanwhile, Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira said they were not underrating Chitipa as small teams always pull a surprise.

“Our aim is to reach the final. We did the first step and now we are taking the second step. We will do everything possible to win the match, “Mpinganjira said.

Captain Alfred Manyozo Jnr will likely lead the Nomads in midfield, together with Vitumbiko Kumwenda and Isaac Kaliyati while Misheck Botomani and Peter Wadabwa will likely partner up-front.

On the other hand, Chitipa United Coach Christopher Nyambose said playing Wanderers was always tough but they would push for a win.

Wanderers beat Karonga United 5-3 on post-match penalties at Mzuzu Stadium after drawing 1-1 while Chitipa beat Polytechnic 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium to reach the round-of-16.

The FDH Bank round-of-16 matches continue tomorrow as Nyasa Big Bullets will take on Mighty Tigers FC, with Blue Eagles taking on Dedza Young Soccer at Nankhaka Stadium.
