Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has fined Silver Strikers, Moyale and Savenda Chitipa United after being found guilty of various offences.
A press statement signed by Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, stated that Silver had been fined K1.5 million for improper conduct and pitch invasion during their match against Be Forward Wanderers in the first round at Silver Stadium.
Moyale have been slapped with a K2.2 million fine for their supporters’ misconduct, pitch invasion and beating up referee Stephano Gomani and a police officer.
“Silver is found guilty of improper conduct of its supporters, invading the pitch, disrupting the match proceedings and bringing the game of football into disrepute.
“Silver Strikers Football Club is therefore fined the sum of MK 1,500,000 payable before their next official match and seriously warned against any improper supporter conduct,” reads part of the statement.
According to the statement, supporters invaded the pitch at the end of the game, insulted match officials, interrupted the game’s normal proceedings and prevented match officials from presenting the Man-of-the-Match award.
Silver acting General Secretary, Innocent Kadammanja, said they condemn their supporters’ behaviour.
“It is unfortunate that our so-called supporters behaved like that. You may recall that our supporters were voted the most behaved last season, hence we will endeavour to get to the bottom of this mishap. We do not condone such behaviour at Silver,” Kadammanja said.
Moyale have also been fined after their supporters, led by Maggie Chiumia, Rodgers Phiri and a Mrs Chikanda invaded the pitch at the end of the game, manhandled, assaulted and insulted match officials, interrupted normal proceedings of the game and prevented match officials from finalising match events in the dressing room by causing disorderliness.
“Moyale is found guilty of improper conduct of its supporters, beating referee Stephano Gomani and police officer Rajab, invading the pitch, disrupting the match proceedings and bringing the game of football into disrepute,” reads the statement.
“Moyale is therefore fined K2.2 million payable before their next official match and seriously warned against any improper supporter conduct. Chitipa is fined K 500,000.”
