TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers maintained their firm grip on the top spot following a 2-1 victory over Chitipa United at Silver Stadium yesterday.
Silver have opened a six-point gap with 31 points from 13 matches.
Nyasa Big Bullets, who defeated Civil Service United 2-1 on Saturday, are second with 25 points followed by the latter on 24 points.
Duncan Nyoni and Patrick Macheso scored in each half to ensure maximum points for the home side before Emmanuel Muyira scored a consolation for the visitors.
Silver Coach Daniel Kabwe admitted his charges did not play their usual game.
“It was a hard-fought victory because Chitipa came hard on us. The boys were a bit complacent and I am not happy with the way we collected the three points but we will work on the shortfalls before the next match,” said Kabwe, who is in his first season in the top flight league.
His opposite number Christopher Nyambose was disappointed with the result.
“We were solid at the back but were poor in the final third,” he said.
In another match yesterday, Blue Eagles and Mafco shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Nankhaka Stadium.
This is a second consecutive home draw for Eagles who drew 2-2 against Mighty Wanderers last week.
Zikani Sichinga scored for Mafco but Mphatso Philemon rescued a point for the hosts.
