It was all sky blue in Lilongwe Wednesday as Airtel Top 8 Cup champions, Silver Strikers, paraded the trophy in the streets of Lilongwe as part of activities to celebrate their triumph.
Several onlookers and Silver fans lined up in the streets of Lilongwe to welcome the champions.
For the players, it was a memorable moment aboard an open AXA Bus Shuttle for the first time in their football careers.
The trophy parade started at Silver Stadium via City Centre, Kawale, Chisapo, Chilinde, Areas 24, 36, Old Town but the climax was at the team’s clubhouse in Area 47.
Silver Chairperson, Ralph Tseka, and other high-profile officials joined the parade.
Silver General Secretary, Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda, said the Central Bankers were aiming for clean sweep of trophies this season.
“We are more than satisfied with the turn-up of our fans for this parade. This is the beginning of good things and we hope we will win more trophies this season,” Chakaka- Nyirenda said.
The Central Bankers ended a two-year cup drought when they beat Be Forward Wanderers 10-9 on post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium last Saturday.
For winning the competition, Silver pocketed K15 million whereas Wanderers got K5 million.
The youthful Silver squad finished third in the TNM Super League last season with 54 points.
