Five Silver Strikers players appeared before the club’s disciplinary committee on Friday answering charges of breaching Covid-19 precautionary measures.
The five, Foster Bitoni, Hadji Wali, Innocent Shema, Franklin Chizuze and Chinsisi Maonga were summoned following social media reports implicating that they were involved in a social football game contrary to the government’s directive prohibiting sporting activities and public gatherings.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali confirmed the development saying verdict will be passed this week.
“After being tipped that some of our players were playing a social football match, we investigated the matter. The five suspected players were called for a disciplinary hearing and the committee has assured us that verdict will be ready this week,” he said.
One of the players Wali confirmed appearing before the disciplinary committee on Friday but refused to disclose his stance.
“I think it is not proper for us to divulge information regarding our arguments. In the meantime we are suspects waiting for verdicts,” Wali said.
Silver bought Bitoni from Blue Eagles in February, whereas Wali and Chizuze were promoted from the reserve side last year.
Football like other sporting events remain suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.
