Silver Strikers will share K7.5 million as 50 percent of the prize money for winning the 2019 Airtel Top 8 cup a fortnight ago.
Silver won the cup for the second time in three years after a 1-0 victory over Karonga United at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Silver General Secretary, Lawrence Yobe, said there was no change in the players’ share.
“It is our policy that the players get 50 percent of the prize money. The rest of the money goes to the club to supplement sponsorship. We are happy with the players for delivering the first trophy this season but we will continue motivating them so that we should win more trophies,” Yobe said.
Additionally, Silver players get K25,000 for a win and half the amount for a draw.
One of the Silver players, speaking on condition of anonymity, urged the club to revise the 50 percent cut.
“We know that the club spends a lot of money but they should also consider us because prices of some things have gone up,” he said.
