Capital City giants Silver Strikers have revived their interest in Civil Sporting Club attacker Raphael Phiri as they plan to bolster their striking force.
The centre forward still has a running contract with Civil but Silver are hoping to snatch him away from their bitter rivals ahead of new season.
The Central Bankers have written Civil expressing interest in the player.
Silver Chairperson Ralph Tseka declined to speak on the matter but General Secretary Lawrence Yobe indicated last week that their striking force is one of the areas which needs reinforcement before the start of the season.
“We are looking at several options in the current transfer window. We want to sign a quality striker,” Yobe said.Advertisement
The Central Bankers have Michael Tetteh, Khuda Muyaba, Mphatso Philimon and Ronald Pangani as their recognised forwards.
Phiri said he was flattered with reports linking him to Silver.
“I am still a Civil player because I still have a running contract. It will depend on what the clubs agree and I will respect their agreement,” he added.
The former Karonga United striker was one of the most sought-after forwards before the start of the 2018 season but he stayed put at Civil.
Despite missing the better part of last season due to injuries, Phiri scored nine goals in the TNM Super League, seven goals behind Golden Boot Award winner Chiukepo Msowoya.
Meanwhile, Silver are also linked with a move for their former playmaker Blessings Tembo who is at Civil. Tembo’s contract is due to expire in April.
