Silver Strikers rebuff scout

Silver Strikers have rebuffed self-styled football scout Prince Jere’s offer of K7 million, which he claims to be the transfer for striker Binwell Katinji to join South Africa Premier Soccer League side Highlands Park.

Katinji and Silver goalkeeper Brighton Munthali sneaked out to South Africa last week for trials at Highlands and Amazulu, respectively.

On Wednesday, Jere claimed that Katinji had passed the trials and that Highlands had offered to buy him at K7 million.

But Jere said Silver, through their General Secretary Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, have declined the offer.

He accused Silver of wanting to hijack the move by demanding K13 million from Highlands.

“It is true that Katinji has passed the trials at Highlands Park but it seems his club is not willing to let him go. I facilitated this deal but they don’t want to trust me. I did everything and I am the one talking to Highlands.

“I am still waiting to hear from them if they will accept the K7 million offer, but if they decline, then it would be a big blow to the player because he is already there waiting for us to agree here,” Jere said.

However, Nyirenda said they would only accept the offer if Highlands confirm directly that the player passed the trials.

“We haven’t received any official communication from Highlands Park, so I may not be in a better position to comment on the matter. Of course, what happens procedurally is that when a player has passed trials, the club writes officially and open discussions on transfer terms,” he said.

Last year, Highlands failed to sign Nyasa Big Bullets defender Miracle Gabeya after he passed trials due to disagreement over a transfer fee.
