Silver Strikers, Red Lions clash shifted
The Carlsberg Cup quarterfinal match between Silver Strikers and Red Lions has been shifted from tomorrow to Sunday at Balaka Stadium.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Media Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed the rescheduling.
Silver assistant coach, Lovemore Fazili, welcomed the change in the programme.
“Our aim is to grab the cup this season and the players are determined to do so,” he said.
His Red Lions counterpart, Prichard Mwansa, said they were treading cautiously ahead of the clash.
“We want to win something this season. We know facing Silver is a big task,” Mwansa said after beating Civo Youth recently.
In the league this season, Silver defeated Lions 2-1 at Balaka Stadium.
In other quarterfinals this weekend, Mafco host Nyasa Big Bullets at Chitowe Stadium tomorrow whereas Be Forward Wanderers face Prison United at Balaka Stadium.
Mafco booked a quarterfinal berth after beating Moyale Barracks 1-2 at Mzuzu Stadium whereas Bullets dumped Azam Tigers out following a 1-0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium.
Silver reached the quarterfinals after thrashing Zolozolo FC 4-1 at
Silver Stadium whereas Lions earned a hard fought 5-4 victory on post-match penalties over Civo Youth.
In the match played on Wednesday, Wanderers beat Kamuzu Barracks 2-0, courtesy of Jimmy Zakazaka and Peter Wadabwa’s goals.
