Capital City giants, Silver Strikers, have set their sights on winning the TNM Super League championship this season.
The new season starts today with exciting fixtures as champions, Kamuzu Barracks, host Be Forward Wanderers in an official launch match at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Silver open the campaign with Premier Bet Wizards at Mulanje Park Saturday before taking on Azam Tigers at Kalulu Stadium Sunday.
In an interview on Thursday, the Bankers’ Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said his side was ready for the season.
“We have a squad with a winning mentality. We will definitely perform well this season. The combination of up-and-coming players will give us an edge over other teams,” said Fazili whose side finished empty handed last season.
The Silver legend made it clear that their priority would be winning the league championship.
“But we know that other big teams are also eyeing the same. If we fail to win the title, a cup or two will be a good consolation for us,” he added.
The team was dealth a heavy blow in the run-up to the season’s kickoff following the injury of influential defender Mike Mtonyo and exciting winger Duncan Nyoni.
Last season, Silver, alongside Blue Eagles, were favourites to the championship but missed it due to inconsistent results.
In the end, Kamuzu Barracks were crowned champions after a solid performance in the second round when they lost just two games.
Ahead of the kick off, KB Coach, Billy Phambala, was optimistic that the soldiers will defend the title.
Blantyre-based giants, Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers have also set their sights on winning the league this season.
